Lila graduated with a degree in Government from Wesleyan University in May of 2007. During her senior year of college, in part because of her involvement with the Student Global AIDS Campaign and because of her enjoyment of her past volunteering at a clinic in Minneapolis (her hometown), Lila decided to switch gears and pursue a career in medicine. In May of 2010, Lila completed her pre-medical coursework at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. After her year of service with the College HealthCorps, Lila plans to apply to medical school.
Lila is currently serving as the volunteer coordinator for the Neighborhood HealthSource (NHS – formerly Fremont Community Clinics), an independent, Federally Qualified Health Center, operating three primary care clinics in North and Northeast Minneapolis. The mission of NHS is to “improve the health of our communities by providing quality health care services that are affordable and accessible.” NHS also provides various community outreach programs with a focus on childhood obesity, stroke and diabetes, family planning and STDs.
