A learning or work experience that changed me: I think the most influential learning experience for me thus far occurred during my study abroad trip to Australia. To me, traveling is one of the best ways to learn about new cultures, experience new customs and most importantly, gain self-confidence. I met people from all around the world, engaged in new opportunities and came back to the U.S. with a greater appreciation for the freedoms I have. I am more open-minded, confident and eager to meet people from different backgrounds after having studied abroad.
Why did you choose to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA with College Health Corps?: Although I graduated with a degree in journalism and environmental studies, nutrition and health have always been passions of mine. I try to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle. In addition, I have been volunteering with various organizations my whole life. After learning about AmeriCorps from friends and family who have participated in the program, I thought this would be a great way to try something totally new, while hopefully making a small difference in a community. Having the opportunity to explore my love for nutrition in a year-long service opportunity is amazing.
