Hiba is a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her interest in the field of public health and her passion for addressing health disparities led her to the College Health Corps. Hiba is currently serving at the University of Minnesota, Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. The community in which she serves is mostly comprised of African refugees, mainly East Africans. Hiba has a lot of experience working with the community she serves and is very fluent in Somali. While serving at the University of Minnesota, Fairview Medical center Hiba is working to reduce health disparities, reducing barriers to health care access and increasing health literacy through implementing programs such as the health commons which is a drop-in nursing center that all are welcome and provides community resources, resource referrals, health education, and health services. Throughout her year services, Hiba will also be supporting Fairview’s shift towards youth and women related projects, by researching current programming for youth and women in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood and by developing a sustainable plan for expansion and continuation of existing programs.
