Carrie Bergstralh is currently serving at Hawthorne Health Services in conjunction with the Hawthorne Adult and Family Literacy Education Center in Rochester, Minnesota. The Hawthorne school and health services population is mostly comprised of refugees and immigrants from Somalia, Sudan, Mexico, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Laos, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and more than 32 other countries. While serving at Hawthorne, Carrie is working towards reducing language and socioeconomic barriers to healthcare access and health literacy by establishing school health fairs for continuing education on tuberculosis, nutrition, portion sizes, and exercise. She is also implementing sustainable processes for free annual influenza vaccinations, tri-annual tuberculosis skin testing, and free garden plots and pots for families post grant fund endings.
